La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo, la evaluación de algunas propiedades en estado fresco y endurecido (resistencia y durabilidad) que puede desarrollar el concreto a partir de la inclusión de agua de curado interno por medio de la sustitución parcial del agregado grueso por agregados ligeros previamente saturados. Los agregados ligeros evaluados fueron arcillas calcinadas y mampostería triturada, simultáneamente se evaluó un agente de curado desarrollado por Toxement llamado Better Mix. Para evaluar las propiedades de manejabilidad, resistencia mecánica y durabilidad del concreto, se realizaron los ensayos de compresión, módulo de elasticidad, asentamiento, densidad de mezcla, densidad del concreto, tasa de absorción superficial inicial, absorción capilar, resistencia a cloruros, tasa de pérdida de agua y variación volumétrica. Para relacionar los resultados obtenidos en los ensayos de laboratorio con el curado interno, se trabajó con porcentajes de remplazo del agregado grueso del 25% y el 15% por agregado ligero pre-humedecido con una relación de agua material cementante de 0.30.

The objective of the present research was the evaluation of some fresh and hardened-state properties of concretes, in which coarse aggregates were partially replaced by lightweight ones previously saturated, in percentages of 15 % and 25 %. The lightweight aggregates were calcined clays and crushed clay bricks. In parallel, the effect of an internal curing agent composed of superabsorbent polymers (SAP) was evaluated. The properties evaluated in the fresh and hardened-state of concretes with a/c of 0,30 were: slum, air content, density, compression resistance, modulus of elasticity, initial superficial absorption and chlorine resistance. Results showed the efficiency of crushed clay bricks as internal curing, as well as the need for deeper research on the use of the evaluated lightweight aggregate as internal curing aggregate in concrete. Results indicate that the crushed clay bricks and the internal curing agent fulfill the behavior expected, in terms of strength and durability. However, the evaluated lightweight aggregate produces a reduction in the resistance and durability of the concrete. The observed behavior in strength and durability is especially variable for the age of 180 days, compared with conventional concretes.

This study aimed to assess the performance of concrete to variations in the percentages of coarse aggregate and ceramic material for internal curing by assessing the mechanical properties and durability of the mixtures made with this material. The ceramic material used in the different mixture trials was produced from crushing structural bricks, commonly used in residential construction in the city of Bogota Colombia. Concrete mixtures were evaluated with three different percentages of ceramic material (0%, 20%, and 40%) used in substitution of coarse aggregate and two values of water / cement ratio (0.30 and 0.50). The resistance to compression, elasticity modulus, absorption, permeability, shrinkage, chloride ion permeability and sorptivity were evaluated. Test results showed that as the replacement percentage of ceramic material, for samples with water / cement ratio of 0.30, increases the results of the resistance to compression are higher than the results for the control sample; while for the water / cement ratio of 0.50 resistances lower than those of a concrete with 100% natural aggregate compression were obtained. The modulus of elasticity for all concrete with ceramic replacement were always lower than those obtained for the concrete made with 100% coarse aggregate. Similarly, the properties of durability, measured by permeability tests, absorption, sorptivity and chloride ion permeability, are affected by the increased percentage of ceramic replacement and water / cement ratio. Internal curing is beneficial only to increase the resistance to compression in concrete of low water / cement to reduce drying shrinkage.
